Christina Lake Stewardship Society Environmental Scholarship

In honor of Brenda LaCroix


The Christina Lake Stewardship Society (CLSS) is proud to support local students who are passionate about protecting and improving the environment. This $1000.00 scholarship is intended to encourage and support students pursuing post-secondary education in environmental, ecological, conservation, sustainability, natural resource, or related fields of study.


Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible:


  1. Be a graduating student from the Christina Lake/Grand Forks BC area.
  2. Be enrolled in or awaiting acceptance of an accredited post-secondary institution, trades program, or certification program related to: 
    • Environmental studies 
    • Biology or ecology 
    • Conservation or stewardship 
    • Forestry or natural resources 
    • Environmental technology 
    • Fisheries, wildlife, or water sciences 
    • Sustainability or climate related studies 
    • Other related environmental fields 

          3. Applicants must begin or continue their program of study by the end of the following calendar year. 


Selection Criteria: Applications will be reviewed based on the following:


Academic Effort and Achievement

Applicants should provide:

  • A copy of their academic transcript 
  • One letter of recommendation from a teacher, employer, mentor, or community member 
  • Any additional information that supports their application 

Community Involvement and Stewardship

Preference may be given to students who demonstrate:

  • Volunteerism      
  • Leadership skills 
  • Environmental involvement 
  • Participation in community or stewardship initiatives 
  • Outdoor education or conservation interests 

Passion for Environmental Stewardship

Applicants should demonstrate a genuine interest in protecting and improving the environment, particularly within the Christina Lake watershed and surrounding region.


Application Requirements

Please submit the following:

  1. A copy of your most recent academic transcript 
  2. One letter of recommendation 
  3. Proof of acceptance or enrollment to an accredited post-secondary institution or training program 
    • If awaiting confirmation of acceptance, please note this in your application       
    • Proof of enrollment must be provided before scholarship funds are released 

         4.  A written submission addressing some or all of the following questions: 

  • Why are you applying for this scholarship and how would it help you? 
  • How has stewardship or the natural environment affected your life? 
  • Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years? 
  • What experience or event motivated you to pursue environmental studies or a related career path? 
  • What is one environmental or stewardship project you would like to see happen at Christina Lake or within the watershed, and why? 

Optional:
    Applicants are encouraged to include information about: 

  • Volunteer experience 
  • Environmental projects 
  • Hobbies and interests 
  • Leadership activities 
  • Awards or achievements 
  • Outdoor recreation involvement 

Scholarship Goal

This scholarship was created to support youth who care about the future of Christina Lake and surrounding ecosystems. CLSS hopes to encourage the next generation of environmental leaders, scientists, educators, tradespeople, and community stewards who will continue protecting the places we all love.
