Due to the cancellation of our Annual Watershed Meeting, we’ve decided to share our presentations in a weekly online format. This allows everyone to still learn about the great work happening in our watershed at their own convenience.
New presentations will be added each week, so be sure to check back regularly. You can also find them on our Facebook page.
A big thank-you to everyone who helped create these presentations and reports, and for all the hard work you do to care for our watershed.
This week’s video highlights the work of our Boundary Region WildSafeBC Coordinator, Sadie Boyer. Her role is incredibly important in our community, and we’re grateful for everything she does to help keep both wildlife and residents safe! Sadie has included both a video presentation and a written year-end report below for you to enjoy.
Let’s take a look at how the year went for our Milfoil Dive Crew!
The RDKB Dive Supervisor, Phil Maki has put together a detailed year-end report, now available on our website.
Phil also captured some amazing underwater footage throughout the season and is excited to share it with you. The video can be viewed below the report!
Dive in and check it out! 👇
We’re excited to share a presentation from Kristina Anderson, Watershed Planner for the RDKB. Kristina is CLSS’s go-to for so much of the information we rely on about Christina Lake, and we truly value her expertise and the work she does.
Tune in to learn more about what she’s been working on and how it supports the health of our watershed!
DSE Crown Land Wildfire Risk Reduction
We’re pleased to share a presentation by Amber Cooke, RFT, Land and Resource Coordinator with the BC Ministry of Forests. Amber leads wildfire risk reduction efforts in the Selkirk Resource District and will be sharing insights on local mitigation projects and community preparedness.
Tune in to learn more about how wildfire management is helping protect our forests and community.
The Regional District has been busy all year working on our existing Christina Lake Invasive Species programs including exploring new options to help manage further spread of Eurasian watermilfoil. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to attend a meeting, participated in the benthic mat program, visited our Join the Conversation Page, submitted a survey, asked questions or even just waved at the dive crew. Your participation, feedback and input are paramount in guiding the decisions that the RDKB makes.
ProcellaCor FX
After a summer of consulting with the community, we are pleased to share the final report from Keefer Environmental in regard to ProcellaCor FX. As a reminder, this report was not to result in a decision on using the product but rather as a way to gather and share the collective feelings and opinions of the community towards the possibility of exploring the use with the province. This link will take you to our Join the Conversation Page where you will find the final report.
Benthic Mats
With the addition of four new properties for 2025, the RDKB now has 4 fragrant waterlily sites as well as 6 milfoil sites approved for the floating benthic mat pilot project. The RDKB is excited to announce the expansion of the Benthic Mat program as we have received provincial approval to launch our Floating Benthic Mat – Waterfront Property Owner Partnership Program. Please stay tuned for further information on how to see if your property can be part of the program.
Dive Crew
For 2025, the dive crew was able to treat every residential site on the lake once. The estimated number of plants removed in 2025 is 657,249. This is in comparison to the number of plants removed in 2024 (870,895), 2023 (673,371), 2022 (646,398) and 2021 (703,847). The dive crew continued to see extreme levels of milfoil in the south end of the lake, where there can be multiple daily truckloads of weeds removed per site, per day. The number of plants removed was also influenced by the application and expansion of the benthic mat pilot, where mono-culture milfoil areas were controlled passively, and little milfoil was removed from said locations.
Save the Date
RDKB team members will be at the Christina Lake Welcome Centre on November 17th between 9am and noon to meet with community members. A formal presentation will not be provided however, we will be on location to talk about the various invasive species programs, the Keefer report as well as to talk to any landowners who may be interested in joining the Floating Benthic Mat – Waterfront Property Owner Partnership Program.
