The Christina Lake Stewardship Society is a non-profit charitable organization that was established in January of 2001 (Committee Est. 1994). Our goal is to preserve and protect the quality and health of the Christina Lake watershed. Over the years the Society has been involved in several projects that involve lake monitoring, fish enumerations and public education.
Our office and interpretative gallery is located inside the Christina Lake Welcome Centre where visitors can access educational resources pertaining to our watershed.
Weekly counts of river spawners take place in late summer and early fall of every year. This information is used to indicate the health of the kokanee population in our area.
An annual event that brings people together to pick up litter from around our community. This event has taken place for over 20 years. We are grateful for all our volunteers that help keep our lake clean!
Removing old and broken docks reduces garbage and prevents creosote-soaked wood and Styrofoam from ending up at the bottom of our lake. If you have dock that needs to be removed, get in touch with us!
Every year we set up at multiple locations to provide awareness and educate the public on how to stop the spread of invasive species. Bi-weekly water samples are taken throughout the summer to test for zebra and quagga mussels in our lake.
Bringing the youth of our community together to learn about our local environment. We engage our youth by exploring outdoors, making crafts and teaching them how to be a lake steward!
Working in partnership with the Ministry of Environment we do bi-weekly sampling. This involves temperature and Secchi depth readings. The MOE sampling looks at chemical, physical and biological parameters.
FinS supplies the necessary equipment needed for us to raise 100 Sockeye Salmon eggs to the fry stage. Release of the fry into the Columbia River takes place in the spring. Our tank is located in our interpretative gallery from January until May where we can educate the public about the salmon lifecycle and the importance of their ecosystem.
Recognize this building? If you are interested in learning about what it does, reach out to us and we can give you a tour! For safety reasons, the tours are only available to those ages 12 and up.
Come visit us in our gallery to learn about different environmental data in the boundary region. Discover local wildlife and see them up close. Explore other non-profit groups who work in partnership with us to protect our watershed.
