2026 Kokanee enumerations

Each year, the Christina Lake Stewardship Society conducts kokanee salmon enumerations to monitor the health of our local spawning populations. These surveys provide valuable long-term data that helps us track population trends, identify changes over time, and support conservation and management decisions that protect kokanee and their habitat.

Our 2026 kokanee enumerations will take place twice a week throughout September and into early October, every Wednesday and Saturday, in Sutherland Creek and Sandner Creek.

No experience is necessary! While previous experience is always helpful, we'll teach you everything you need to know before heading out into the field.

Volunteers should be physically fit, enjoy spending time outdoors, and be comfortable getting a little wet. Surveys involve walking through the creek, navigating slippery rocks, balancing on logs, and crossing other natural obstacles.

We'll also be working in wildlife country, where encounters with bears, cougars and other wildlife are possible. Safety and awareness are always a priority, and CLSS staff will provide a safety briefing, first aid supplies, and have safety plans in place for every survey.

Our kokanee monitoring program wouldn't be possible without the dedication of our volunteers. Your time and effort directly contribute to protecting one of our watershed's most important fish species.
